You may be surprised that IELTS may not be mandatory in many universities now. But don’t get too excited so quickly, you still have to prove your English skills.

You must understand that the studies in Australia, Canada, UK, USA and many other countries is done only in English, so it is a prerequisite to screen students for the proficiency in English. You can achieve this without IELTS as well. One way is to take another test like TOEFL or PTE, however there is a way where you can escape getting tested; get C or above in English in your O level exams or at least 70% in Intermediate English and for PG you should be able to show your English proficiency as well.
The final decision rests with the university you choose as not all universities accept English proficiency proof. It is mandatory to do IELTS for all pathways streams.
When applying to a university in the UK, please make sure you are taking UKVI approved English exam. The UKVI test differs from the ordinary IELTS in terms of the Test Report Forms that are different than the regular IELTS test, and the security protocols that are not implemented otherwise.
